Air Max 1 Ultra 2.0: Chili [embroidery]

embroidered chilis on a classic shoe
Air Max brand was developed to provide wearers with the ultimate comfort, shoes cushioned with air. The Air Max 1 was released in 1987 with a revolutionary design, "visible air", providing windows from the exterior of the shoe showing it's air filled pouches.
In 2017, Nike released the Air Max 1 Ultra 2.0 on Air Max Day (March 26). It was released in its classic colorway, White and University Red. The shoe's design features lightweight mesh uppers, red suede mudguard and the numbers "3.26" on its tongue to represent it's 30th anniversary Air Max Day celebration. This sneaker features a clean modern touch to a classic sneaker.
For this project, it's fine mesh upper provided the perfect canvas for cross stitches. The idea was to create a truly unique sneaker for myself while challenging my limits of medium. My choice of the chili was intended to tie in an icon that both matches the suede University Red material and stands out against it. I chose the locations and quantity of chilis with the hopes of creating a play on a continuous pattern. I hoped with this shoe I could pay homage to my appreciate for sneaker culture and the Air Max brand.
